Project Overview
Using global sales figures of all video games released, provide recommendations to the video game developer GameCo on how to stay competative in the global market.

My Contributions
This was a solo project. As such, I gathered, cleaned, and ran statistical analysis on global video game sales data. I then gathered insight on how certain genres sell in various markets to provide recommendations to GameCo.
Global video games sales over time
GameCo wants to stay competitive in the global market and has tasked me with developing insight and recommendations based on the sales information of all video games released since 1980 and the release of Pong. Going into the analysis, I was running on the hypothesis that the North American (NA) region will continue to be the global center of video games sales, as compared to the European (EU) and Japan (JA) markets; genres popular to the region should be prioritized.

Yet after running an analysis on the data another reality has presented itself. The NA region has been on a general decline over the past 6 years, dropping by an average of 2.7% every year. In contrast, the EU and JA markets are slowly on the rise as they have risen by an average of 1.6% over the same period of time. This leads me to believe that while NA has the lion's share of video games sales globally, they are a market that should be less prioritized in order to be successful long term.

Now that a prioritization has been implemented, we can look at what genres of games should be developed to accommodate it. The EU market has very similar taste in games as NA, and therefore does not lead to any modifications to the current project plan. However, we see in the JA market that they vastly prefer RPG games over the others (so much so, they have their own subgenre called JRPG: Japanese Role Playing Games). Seeing as Japan is the fastest and most consistently growing market, a focus on this genre should be paramount for long-term success.

Through this analysis, we can determine the general trends of video games sales on the global market, which genres are best sellers in each region, and can allow us to infer future trends and recommend R&D and marketing strategy.
